Early years

Created by Ruth one year ago

Mum was born on 9th May 1937 in Wandsworth, the second daughter of Frank and Mona Teush.* Her father had just bought a new build house in Bury Crescent, Gosport. During the war he was stationed at a naval base in Scotland, so from the age of two until eight* along with her sister and her Mum, she lived in  some very humble rooms in a shared house in Dunfermline which was a safer part of the country to be in at the time. Her protective nature showed itself when her mother, Mona, who had spent a long time heating up water for her washing, came in to find that the landlady had pre-empted her and put her own washing in it. This brought Mona to tears which prompted four year old Mum to indignantly confront the landlady, saying, “You’re a naughty bad lady. You made my mummy cry!”

Around the age of 6 Mum had her tonsils out and was impressed by one kind nurse who gave her jelly instead of the rough food that hurt her throat. She decided that she wanted to be a kind nurse when she grew up.
When they came back to Gosport, Mum went to Leesland school, Gosport High School, and then Portsmouth High School.* When she was around ten, a Christian speaker came to the school. He encouraged them to put their names into John 3 verse 16: For God so loved Marion that he gave his only begotten son that if Marion believes in him she will not perish but have everlasting life. Mum had been brought up in a Christian family and gone to church and Sunday School, but on this day, she decided to follow Jesus for herself.
