Final years

Created by Ruth one year ago
In 2016, shortly after Dad had been diagnosed with dementia, Mum was diagnosed with Myeloma. She responded well to several cycles of chemotherapy* treatment with tablets or injections. Three years later Dad went into a care home, and Mum (with severe memory impairment), was going to move in with him* but then lockdown happened and they were separated. Sadly Dad died 10 months later, before we had a chance to see him properly again. After catching covid in September 2022, Mum’s health declined, and she was in hospital for 3 weeks and a nursing home for one before her final two weeks in hospital. *Mum was apart from Dad for 3 years when they got engaged and for nearly 3 years at the end of her life. We were thankful to have a room with a view* and space for us to stay with her in turn and together during her final weeks. It was a blessing to be able to play or sing songs, talk, pray and read verses as we waited for her to move on to her heavenly home with Jesus who she had decided to follow aged 10 and committed her life to at 18.
